MONTREAL IMPACT TO PLAY TORONTO FC

An interesting article quotes Montreal Impact billionaire director Joey Saputo's take on Toronto FC. Saputo has balked at the price for an MLS expansion team in the past, passing up opportunities to get involved in MLS when prices hovered between $5 million - $10 million. He was involved with the APSL bid to gain Division 1 Status from the USSF in the early 1990's.

Saputo confirmed what was reported here last year, that the Montreal Impact will play Toronto FC in a friendly. The game was negotiated as part of the transfer of Greg Sutton to Toronto FC. Unfortunately, the game itself may not take place this year according to the article. Toronto native and Canadian Youth International Andres Arango passed up an opportunity to sign for Toronto FC in order to play for Montreal. The Impact have been known to offer salaries comparable or better than some MLS teams would offer for domestic talent. Gabriel Gervais, Nevio Pizziolitto, and Sandro Grande are Impact players that MLS teams have looked at in the past. http://www.cbc.ca/cp/sports/070301/s030137A.html
