The good majority of you won't read this until Monday morning, as the traffic here dips substantially on the weekends, with only a few hundred unique visitors each day. Anyway, I won't be updating the blog this week as I'm in sunny California. Aside from enjoying myself and sightseeing - I should have an opportunity to observe a few of the MLS teams training and in game action. Plotting my schedule as I type.
The week ahead:
* According to comments made by Mo Johnston's on Friday live on the Score Network, Toronto FC are set to announce a new left sided player shortly. Andy Welsh, formerly of Sunderland and Leicester in England, is the top candidate. Welsh, who was reportedly training with Toronto FC a couple of weeks ago, impressed Mo enough to earn a contract apparently.
* According to Gol TV Canada's "Extra Time" show, the Canadian Soccer Association is set to announce Brazilian Rene Simoes, as the new Men's National team coach. Interestingly, while host Lee Godfrey declared Simoes as the new head coach, Co-host Paul James did not sound convinced Simoes had the job just yet. James was clearly rooting for former teammate Dale Mitchell, and questioned the resume of Simoes and his ability to hold on to a job for long periods of time. Mitchell, in my mind is the best midfielder ever produced in Canada, bar none, and including Owen Hargreaves. Simoes, led Jamaica to the 1998 World Cup in France, yet has been nomadic ever since the glory days of the Reggae Boys. He has had stints in Trinidad, Honduras, Iran, and the Brazilian Women's National Team.
