TORONTO FC PICKS UP GOALKEEPER JON BUSCH THROUGH WAIVER DRAFT

Toronto FC, selected MLS veteran Jon Busch in the waiver draft today from the Columbus Crew this afternoon. I had wondered if Toronto was interested in Busch last week, in another post about the player being waived by Columbus. Sir Mo answered by selecting Busch today. It will be very interesting to see how Toronto juggles their foreign player allotment, as Busch will count as an international player. Toronto FC currently have 7 American domestic eligible players on the roster - including the 2 Green Card holding internationals (O'Brien & Cancela). Supplemental draft pick, Hunter West, may also still be in contention for a developmental contract. The number of Americans on the roster proves how difficult a chore it has been trying to lure Canadian players back home to play in MLS. While the interest is very much there, the money being offered to Canadians abroad may not be close to what the players are earning in Europe. Busch, who made upwards of $90,000 last season, will surely be due for a pay cut.
